A 2-3 hour guided game drive followed by a 3 course dinner in our dining room, around the bonfire. Must be booked in advance.
Although you are welcome to do your own game drives and bush walks, guided game drives and walks can be booked.
A good network of farm roads and some single tracks enables the cyclist to enjoy riding in the bush. Tracks are either smooth or 4x4. There is always the possibility of coming face to face with a Zebra or a Giraffe around the next corner! Alternatively, the public roads outside the farm have very little traffic and offer longer scenic rides.
Izintaba offers a diversity of habitats from open plains to rocky kloofs, to dams and seasonal rivers. This enables it to support a wide selection of wildlife. Guests are able to drive in their own cars on the expansive network of farm roads to look for game and enjoy the scenery. Most roads are suitable for cars with some ground clearance and only a few require a 4x4. A map of the reserve is provided on arrival so you are able to explore at your own pace. Alternatively we do offer guided game drives on an open landrover with a qualified guide.
Izintaba supports a wide range of fauna and flora, and because we do not have any dangerous game, the best way to take it all in and enjoy the beautiful scenery is on foot. There are game paths and with over 25km of roads on the property one can enjoy long easy leisurely walks. For the more energetic, there is a marked walking trail leading down a scenic kloof, which has waterfalls and rock pools in the rainy season. For the less energetic, there is much less strenuous marked footpath that follows the game paths and meanders around the cottages.
Discover the joy of bird watching with over 200 species recorded in the area. Check lists provided on request.
Cool off in the inviting swimming pool set up amongst large boulders with lovely views of the surrounding bush. Izintaba Lodge and Kudu Cottage have their own private swimming pools.
The flora is very diversified due to the variety of habitats. It's a wonderful hobby to walk about identifying trees and wild flowers with a good reference book.
Pack a picnic and enjoy the surroundings at one of our two picnic sites. One is situated on the banks of the dam, the other is close to the start of the walking trail with beautiful views.
There are endless possibilities for the keen nature photographer, especially as guests have access to all areas of the property.
Meals can be enjoyed in the Burkea Boma dining room. Enjoy traditional 3 course dinners around a raging bonfire under star filled African skies or a full breakfast to the sound of morning birdsong. The Burkea Boma is not a restaurant, but only a dining room and we only cater on request. Meals are set and need to be booked at least one week in advance. There is no bar, so you are welcome to bring your own drinks. Please note that meals are only served for a minimum of 4 people. More basic 2 course dinners and breakfasts can be delivered to your cottage if you are less than 4 people.
There is limited cell phone reception. There is free WiFi at the Burkea Boma as well as a TV that guests are welcome to use. There are no TV’s or WiFi in the cottages.
